The Cathar Prophecy: A Rebirth of the Way of Love & The Feminine Mysteries

The Cathars were the spiritual descendants of Mary Magdalene.

On March 16th, we remember the Cathars—the guardians of an ancient wisdom, the bearers of the Way of Love—who were burned alive at Montségur in 1244.

The flames that consumed their bodies did not extinguish their truth. The essence of their teachings, rooted in love, equality, and direct communion with the Divine, has endured across time.

The Cathars, known as the Bons Hommes (Good Men) and Bonnes Femmes (Good Women), are said to have carried the secret teachings of Mary Magdalene, who, according to legend, brought Christ’s deepest initiations to the South of France.

They lived in accordance with these teachings, embracing a faith that honoured both the masculine and feminine aspects of the Divine, upheld the sacred principle of gnosis—inner knowing—and taught that true Christianity was a path of direct spiritual awakening rather than submission to religious authority.

For this, they were declared heretics. For this, they were hunted, tortured, and ultimately massacred by the Church of Rome.

But before the last Cathar was silenced, a prophecy was spoken.

The Prophecy: When the Laurel Turns Green Again

The last known Cathar Parfait, Guilhem Belibaste, who was burned at the stake in 1321, left behind these words:

"At the end of seven hundred years, the laurel will turn green again."

Seven centuries later, in 2021, that time arrived

This prophecy is not merely about the return of the Cathars, but about the rebirth of the Way of Love.

It is a call to those who carry this memory in their souls, a summons to those who resonate with this path to step forward once more. The laurel has turned green. The time of awakening has begun.

The Last Stand at Montségur

Montségur, a strikingly high mountain fortress in the remote Languedoc region at the foothills of the Pyrenees, became the final refuge of the Cathars.

By 1243, it was a sanctuary for hundreds of Perfecti and Credentes who had fled persecution, seeking safety behind its walls.
For nine months, they withstood the siege laid upon them by the forces of the Church of Rome and the French Crown.

When the fortress finally fell in March 1244, they were given a choice: renounce their faith and be spared, or hold true to their beliefs and face the flames.

Some of the men defending the castle, moved by the devotion of the Cathars, chose to join them. They received the consolamentum, the Cathar sacrament of spiritual purification.

For two weeks, they prepared in prayer and ritual for what was to come. Then, led by Bishop Bertrand Marty, 224 men, women, and children walked down from the fortress, hand in hand, and entered the flames.

Their voices rose in song as fire consumed their bodies.

They did not see death as an end, but as a passage. Their truth could not be burned. Their spirit could not be silenced.

And now, centuries later, their presence still calls us—not to mourn, but to remember.

Yet the mystery of Montségur does not end in fire.

It is said that the Cathars at Montségur were in possession of a sacred treasure—not of gold or wealth, for they rejected material possessions, but something far greater.

Some believe this was the Holy Grail, not as a chalice, but as a manuscript containing hidden wisdom—perhaps even the secret teachings of Christ and Magdalene.

This lost text has been called the Book of Love.

Legends tell that, on the night before Montségur fell, a few Cathar Perfecti escaped down the sheer cliffs, carrying the manuscript with them.

Some say they fled to a secret forest refuge where the Lost Treasure of the Cathars—whether a sacred book, hidden knowledge, or a spiritual legacy—was safeguarded and fiercely protected.

Many of the books of the Cathars were burned by the Inquisition, yet this Holy Grail was said to hold a revelation so powerful it could transform the world. Whether it still exists or not remains unknown. The book has never been found.

The Rebirth of the Church of Love

The last prophecy of the Cathars foretold that the Church of Love would rise again—not as an institution, but as a movement of the soul.

The Cathars' final prophecy spoke of the Church of Love arising from the union of many cultures, lands, and peoples—like seeds carried by the wind and water, ignited by love and destined to flourish wherever they find fertile ground.

And let there be no confusion about the word church—it simply means communion, derived from the Greek ecclesia, meaning a gathering.

This is not an institution but a coming together of kindred spirits, where love, compassion, and understanding are cultivated and shared.

The Cathars believed in a direct, personal experience of the Divine.

They knew that true spirituality could not be dictated by external authority but was a path walked within.

That is why they were a threat.

That is why they were silenced.

But truth cannot be burned. Love cannot be destroyed.

And now, seven hundred years later, it is awakening once more.

And we are here.

The Rebirth of the Church of Love

The Cathars believed in a universal truth, a way of living that transcended dogma and institution. Seven hundred years after Belibaste’s prophecy, that truth rises again—not in the form of a new religion, but as a remembering of what has always been.

In 1978, in the very land where the Cathars had fallen, something extraordinary happened. During a visit to Montségur, Colin Bloy, a dowser and energy worker, uncovered an ancient Latin text in the meadow where 300 Cathar Perfecti had been burned alive. The text spoke of the rebuilding of a church in Andorra in 1986.

Years later, in March 1985, Bloy was moved to write what would become The Proclamation of the Church of Love. He did not claim authorship, saying simply:

"This was written by my hand, but I would not claim authorship. It was taken down in ten minutes—just like that."

On Good Friday, March 28, 1986, in Andorra, this Church was proclaimed—not as an institution, but as a spiritual truth that exists beyond boundaries, beyond doctrine, beyond time.

The Proclamation of the Church of Love

THE CHURCH OF LOVE

It has no fabric – only understanding.

It has no membership – save those who know they belong.

It has no rivals – because it is non-competitive.

It has no ambition, because it only seeks to serve.

It knows of no boundaries for nationalisms are unloving.

It is not of itself because it seeks to enrich all groups and religions.

It acknowledges all great teachers of all the ages who have shown the truth of Love.

Those who participate, practice the Truth of Love in all their daily being.

There is no walk of life or nationality that is a barrier.

Those who are, know. It seeks not to teach but to be, and by being, enrich.

It recognizes the collectivity of all humanity and that we are all one with the One.

It recognizes that the way we are may be the way of those around us because we are that way.

It recognizes the whole planet as a Being, of which we are a part.

It recognizes that the time has come for the supreme transmutation, the ultimate alchemical act, the conscious change of the ego into a voluntary return to the whole.

It does not proclaim itself with a loud voice but in the subtle realms of loving.

It salutes all those in the past who have blazoned the path but paid the price.

It admits of no hierarchy or structure, for no one is greater than another.

Its members shall know each other by their deeds and being and their eyes and by no other outward sign, save the fraternal embrace.

Each one will dedicate his or her life to the silent loving of their neighbor and environment and the planet, whilst carrying out their daily task, however exalted or humble.

It recognizes the supremacy of the great idea which may only be accomplished if the human race practices the supremacy of Love.

It has no rewards to offer, either here or in the hereafter, save that of the ineffable joy of being and loving.

Its members shall seek only to advance the cause of understanding, within whichever church, group, or family they happen to be.

They shall do good by stealth and teach only by example.

They shall heal their neighbor, their community, and our Planet.

They shall know no fear, and feel no shame, and their witness shall prevail over all odds.

It has no secrets, no arcanum, no initiations save that of the true understanding of the power of love and that, if we want it to be so, the world will change but only if we change ourselves first.

ALL THOSE WHO BELONG, BELONG. THAT IS THE CHURCH OF LOVE.
